Double Braids and Downtown

Hi Everyone!
Thank you for all the traffic, sharing, and comments we've been getting! This post is actually not just about a hair style, but a makeup look that goes great with it. The doubled braid is styled by Sophie Enda, the makeup is done by Regan McCune, and it is worn by Mikaela Johnson.

Double Braid
The hair style is actually much easier than we anticipated it to be. Mikaela's hair is thick and naturally has wave to it so we did not use texturizing spray, dry shampoo, or curl it prior to styling it. Though if you have thin or fine hair I recommend giving your hair a quick curl (similar to the previous post) and then giving it a good spray with either dry shampoo or texturizing spray. This will make your braids thicker and prevent your hair from looking thin and flat.

Materials:
4 hair ties
Optional:
Texturizing spray
Dry shampoo
Curling Iron

  1.  The first step is to part your hair. Here we went with Mikaela's natural side part since thats what she's most comfortable with.
  2.  Start with one side of the part and grab about an inch to an inch and a half of a section of hair close to your part.
  3.  You will french braid ONLY THE HALF TO HALF INCH SECTION OF HAIR until between the nape of the neck and crown of hair.
  4.  Tie that section of the hair off.
  5.  Repeat step 3 on a same sized section of hair close to the first braid and tie those two braids together.
  6.  You are going to do the steps 2-5 on the other side of the part.
  7.  Take the 4 braids and untie them and underneath where they were tied together do a regular three strand braid and tie off at the end.

Day Wear Eye Makeup

We recommend styling your hair before you do your makeup. If you use any texturizing sprays or hair spray you do not want that getting on your face after you do your makeup. This way you can wash your face to remove any sprays. This look is done only with the Urban Decay Naked Palette. Though this look can be achieved with similar metallic colors.

  1. Apply the color "naked" to the entire lid
  2. Apply "sin" on top the lid mainly focusing on the out 3/4 of it
  3. Blend "toasted" into the the crease and outer corner
  4. For a final touch put "half baked" onto the outer lid right before the outer corner to create a darker shimmery look.
  5. Draw a thin line of eyeliner as close to the upper lash line.
  6. Apply 2-3 coats of mascara to finish the eye look.

Straightener Curls Review

Everytime we curl our hair it falls flat before we have gone out! Though when we straighten our hair it stays as straight as a pin all night. We decided to see if we could combine the two to get our curls to  stay. We curled Ashley's hair with a straightener and tried several ways to see which kept her curls the longest. Ashley has medium length hair that is very fine, and we did not use any texturizing sprays.

With a curling iron (any sized barrel) Ashley's hair will create very loose curls that stay about 30-45 minutes. When we brush out her hair to create waves her hair will stay about 15 minutes.

With a straightener it was a trial and error to try to figure out what worked the best to achieve the best curls. We found that what worked the best was sectioning the hair into 3 layers and using a section of hair about an inch and a half wide.

By setting the curls with clips the curls were very bouncy... almost too bouncy. Though when we brushed out the curls they were so full and fun! So depending on the look you are going for will depend if you want to set them or not. By setting them you will get a more formal look or you could use it to do a nice updo or messy bun. Not setting the curls and not brushing them out gave a more casual every day look.
